A Jewish War Veteran's Tribute to Those Who Serve

-- Irv Justman, American Legion Post 43, Jewish War Veterans Post 113

We, the veterans of our nation,
Call out to the general population:

Army, Navy, Air, Marine Corps,
We are veterans of all the wars,
Who fought to found and then protect
A nation threatened, invaded, nearly wrecked.

We -- sons, daughters, spouses, and beaux --
Rest neatly ‘neath markers in endless rows.
We lie asleep deep down in the sea,
Have vanished mid-air, no more to be.

We sailed the ship, flew the plane,
Hit the beach, crossed every terrain.
Performed our duty as required,
Looked forward to being civilian attired.

And having served our tour of duty,
Whole or wounded or amputee,
Welcome us as we homeward return
To civilian life, for which we yearn.
