Rep. John David Hayworth (R AZ-5).
Special Dossier: Decision 5767

Op/Ed

AIPAC rebukes GOP in Arizona
NCJW told "No wonder there are anti-Semites."

-- Ira Forman

Finally, The New York Jewish Week reports this week that surrogates of Arizona Republican Congressman J.D. Hayworth "offended the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW)," and earned a "rebuke from leaders of AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobby."

As we told you last week, Hayworth recently sent two surrogates to represent him at a NCJW candidates forum in Scottsdale, Arizona. According to the Arizona Republic, one of Hayworth's surrogates claimed that Hayworth, a Christian, is a "more observant Jew" than the NCJW members in attendance because he opposes female reproductive rights. With the majority of audience members booing, jeering, and literally walking out of the room, Hayworth's second surrogate declared, "No wonder there are anti-Semites."

We wonder if our Republican counterparts still think that Hayworth is worthy of support from the Jewish community.
